Bulgarian Summer: Sofia

I spent a month in Bulgaria this summer, and as always, going back felt less like a travel of distance and more like a travel in time.  Europe is very different than America, the Balkans are very different than Europe, and it took some adjustment of my over-stimulated senses to feel at home again there.  My memories mixed with the current reality and it all seemed utterly strange and absolutely wonderful.

In the next few (many) posts I'll be sharing the photos I took while in Bulgaria during June and most of July, as well as some impressions.  It was my best visit yet!

These are from the flight there, and from the only day I spent in my childhood home in the capital, Sofia.
