The Bay Area Meets the Orient
Last weekend I did my first individual photo gig since I put standard family shoots on hold. This here beauty agreed to model for me, and help me practice and learn my way around creative portraiture. I have, of course, taken artistic pictures of family and friends before but not an entire session where I take my time to give my model directions on where to stand, how to pose, what to do with their hands, and generally how to look or, at least, how to try looking in a certain way.
Sema, my model, is from Turkey. Not unlike myself, she loves the Bay Area and all the great opportunities it provides, but often misses her homeland its beautiful culture there... The nostalgia never goes away, my dear, but if it's any consolation, it does get better with time. And the good news is that if there's one place in America where foreigners and immigrants are free to be themselves, that's indeed our part of California :)
The shoot was a huge success, if I do say so myself, and I can't wait to keep doing this on the regular. So far these photoshoots are pro-bono so if you live in the Bay Area and would like to model for me, please give me a call!
